The Neighborhood Cooking Foundation
Bringing an hour of dingnity and good food to those who find too little of both in their lives
Volunteer
The Neighborhood Cooking Foundation welcomes all ages to help with our homeless cooking and here's how you can participate.
It's simple-- bring a cutting board, a knife, or a peeler, an apron, maybe some raw materials (i.e fresh fruit or vegetables, mushrooms, pasta, etc), or just bring yourself and your sense of humor and creativity along with a strong "go-for-it" attitude!
There is no need to bring any protein(meat), that has already been taken care of. (see Home page for protein theme) Now some come for all four hours, some for only an hour or two. Any time given is welcome. Some cook, some chop, some label, and some wash dishes and some deliver but everyone works together and has a great time; Best to arrive early in order to facilitate the process
Typical schedule: 1st hour = prep (chop, peel, wash, trim, etc.). 2nd and 3rd hours = cook, create, begin to package food for transport. Last hour = package food, clean up, restore kitchen and surroundings to original condition. Dish washing volunteers always helpful to the cause!
We also need volunteers to help serve the homeless when we cook for theOperation Sack Lunchmeal site located at 6th and Cherry.
If you would like to know more about volunteering or want to be put on our email list, please contact Darren Pritt at darren@neighborhoodcooking.org.
