The Neighborhood Cooking Foundation

Bringing an hour of dingnity and good food to those who find too little of both in their lives

Beginnings

The Neighborhood Cooking Foundation was born out of the good works of local restaurateurs John Platt and Paul Butler.  In 2001 Tent City moved to a location at St. Therese Church in the neighborhood of Madrona.  In keeping with the theme of their restaurant, St. Clouds, owner's Platt and Bulter decided to open up their kitchen to let the community come in and work together to provide home cooked meals for the residents of Tent City.  Inspired by the outpouring of generosity by so many volunteers, by the warm and grateful reception from the Tent City residents, and by the fresh, bright, interesting food that was prepared for Tent City, once Tent City moved from their location at St. Therese Church, they committed themselves to a monthly cooking project that now feeds over 200 people a month and has fed more than 10,000 people in the last 6 years.  Then in late 2006, a local resident, Darren Pritt, started volunteering at St. Clouds.
Darren became interested in volunteering at St. Clouds after learning that the father of one of the athletes he coaches on the Garfield High School Tennis Team, Wilson Platt,  was cooking for the homeless in his neighborhood.  After volunteering for a while at St. Clouds, Darren approached John about expanding his efforts and helping more homeless in Seattle.  Thus was born the The Neighborhood Cooking Foundation.
